Ami played a lead role in bringing about the merger of JTA and MyJewishLearning, culminating in the creation of 70 Faces Media. Prior to the merger, he served as the CEO and editor in chief of JTA. Before that, he was the executive editor of the Forward and editor of its website. He also worked as an editor of the Jewish Exponent, in his hometown of Philadelphia.
