Miao Xie

Miao Xie is a Content Data Scientist at AARNet, Australia’s Academic and Research Network, since February 2021, where responsibilities include designing and developing an interactive SOC insights system and a conceptual "detection as code" SOC. Prior to this role, Miao served as a Senior Engineer at Westpac from March 2020 to February 2021, focusing on data ingestion, transformation, and the development of risk models for detecting fraudulent trading behaviors using Python and PySpark within Palantir Foundry. Miao's earlier experience includes working as a Senior Security Specialist at Telstra from February 2015 to November 2019, where Miao led advanced security analytics projects, and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at UNSW Canberra in 2014, specializing in host-based intrusion detection systems. Miao started the career as a Research Assistant at Curtin University in 2009, researching wireless sensor networks. Miao holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNSW, completed in 2013.
