Ad Smits

Ad Smits has extensive experience in internal audit and education, currently serving as Senior Manager of Internal Audit at Achmea since February 2005, overseeing assurance projects and relationship management within various financial and risk sectors. In addition to this role, Ad has been a faculty member at Tilburg University since September 1997, teaching and examining External Reporting & Annual Accounts Law for the Post-Master Accountancy program. Ad Smits also served on the supervisory board of Diagnovum from May 2013 to May 2021, focusing on local diagnostic services, and played a key role in coordinating professional practices at the Instituut van Internal Auditors Nederland from October 2011 to September 2018. Prior to these roles, Ad worked at Ernst & Young for 15 years, advancing from Manager to Senior Manager in Financial Services and Health Sciences. Academic credentials include a degree in Auditing from NIVRA Nyenrode, obtained between 1978 and 1989.
