Prior to that, they worked at DeVry Education Group as a Director of IT, Networking & Operations, overseeing the design and implementation of upgrades to data centers, networks, and wireless networks globally. James also served as the Director of IT Operations & Incident Management, responsible for the availability of IT services for eight institutions. Before joining DeVry, McMaken was the Director of IT Enterprise Systems, Data Base, and Storage at DeVry Inc., where they led the infrastructure changes necessary for a student information system migration. James started their career at Siemens Building Technologies, where they held several management roles, including Senior Manager of Project Management and Networks, Systems, Data Center Ops., and Batch Processing. Overall, McMaken has a strong background in IT operations, infrastructure management, and project management.
James McMaken obtained an Associate's degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Henry Ford College, which they attended from 1978 to 1981. In addition, they obtained certifications in Mental Health First Aid from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in October 2023, and in Unconscious Bias from LinkedIn in 2017.
