Mark Smitherman

Mark Smitherman is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the maritime and defense sectors. Currently serving as the NSRP Executive Director at Advanced Technology International (ATI) since September 2018, Mark leads efforts to enhance shipbuilding efficiency through research and development as part of the National Shipbuilding Research Program, sponsored by the Navy. Prior to this role, Mark held the position of President at OWNSHIP, LLC, where management and consulting services were provided for manufacturing and technology in relation to maritime and defense. Mark's previous tenure includes significant roles at Concurrent Technologies, where responsibilities spanned business development and oversight of applied R&D programs, and Atlantic Marine, managing commercial shipbuilding operations. Mark began a distinguished career in the US Navy, serving as Branch Head for Manpower Analysis and as Chief Engineer/Division Manager on a nuclear submarine. Educational credentials include a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA in Management from The University of Memphis.
