Mark Thompson has extensive work experience in various leadership and financial roles. Mark started their career at KPMG Canada as an Associate in 1993, where they worked until 1997. Mark then moved to KPMG Corporate Finance LLC as a Senior Associate until 2000. From there, they joined MGI Software as the Director of Finance from 2000 to 2001. Mark then worked at World Gaming, first as the Finance Director from 2001 to 2003, and later as the Operations Director from 2003 to 2005. Mark then joined Cable & Wireless Northern Caribbean as the Chief Financial Officer for a brief period in 2005 before becoming the Chief Financial Officer at Cable & Wireless Ja. in the same year. Since 2007, Mark has been serving as the President & CEO of Advantage General Insurance Company Limited.
Mark Thompson obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Commerce/Economics/Actuarial Science from the University of Toronto, where they studied from 1985 to 1991. Mark further pursued a professional certification by attending the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) from 1993 to 1996, where they obtained the CPA, CA designation in the field of Accounting.

The company was established in 1964 and following a change of ownership, became known as United General Insurance Company Limited in 1986. In January 2007, the company's name was changed to Advantage General Insurance Company Limited. In September 2019, Sagicor Investments Limited acquired majority ownership (60%) of the organisation, a continuing demonstration of the Sagicor Group to provide the best comprehensive insurance schemes for Jamaicans.
