Mark Berndt has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Mark began their career in 2001 as a Nuclear Trained Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy and served until 2006. In 2007, they joined American Electric Power (AEP Ohio) and held several director roles, including Director of Commercial Operations, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Director of Business Development, and Director of Business Operations Support. In 2022, they became the Director of Distribution Projects at AEP Ohio before transitioning to their current role as Managing Director of Operations at AEP Ohio in 2023. Additionally, from 2011 to 2017, Mark served as the Head Lacrosse Coach at St. Charles Preparatory School.

Mark Berndt completed their education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Computer Applications from the University of Notre Dame in the period between 1997 and 2001. Following this, Mark pursued further education and obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Executive MBA from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, which took place from 2015 to 2016. Additionally, Mark received certification as a Nuclear Engineer from Naval Nuclear Power School, attending between 2003 and 2004.
