Wei Liu

Head, ESG Strategy at Alibaba Group

Wei Liu currently serves as the Head of ESG Strategy at Alibaba Group, a position held since September 2021. Prior experience includes significant roles at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), where responsibilities ranged from Guest Research Scholar to Leader of the Governance in Transition Research Area within the Risk & Resilience Program, as well as IIASA Postdoctoral Research Scholar, receiving one of two prestigious IIASA Postdoctoral Fellowship awards in 2012. Prior to IIASA, Wei Liu was a Senior Sustainability Scientist at Luohan Academy, Alibaba Group, from December 2019 to August 2021. Early career experiences include positions at Michigan State University and Iowa State University, involving roles as Graduate Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. Wei Liu holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Peking University, a Master of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Iowa State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Wildlife Conservation and Wildland Management from Michigan State University.
