Control Electronics And Instrumentation Engineer

Engineering · Paris, France

Job description

Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems. The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously! We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing 30 million USD of funding in 2022 to develop our unique technology. Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!

As part of the Quantum Hardware department, the “Control Electronics and Instrumentation” team is in charge of selecting, operating and maintaining the electronic equipment that drives our superconducting qubit chips. A typical set-up comprises high performance microwave and RF synthesizers, phase-stable oscillators, lock-in detectors, ultra-stable DC sources, and specialized characterization instrumentation such as vector network analyzers (VNA), spectrum analyzers and multi-GHz oscilloscopes. The mostly off-the-self equipment is completed by in-house developed passive microwave modules. The team’s principal tasks are:

  • operating the existing drive electronics systems including monitoring, performance checks and software updates - up-grading the existing systems to evolving requirements, including spectral purity, pulse shape and power stability - adapting existing systems to new quantum chip designs
  • conceiving and assembling electronics systems for future quantum computing set-ups - evaluating and choosing equipment among existing commercial solutions - interacting with suppliers on a technical level

As a Control Electronics and Instrumentation engineer, you will contribute to the design, fabrication, test and operation of the Instrumentation racks. We are looking for an experienced Engineer in RF instrumentation to consolidate and maintain the various electronic instruments (RF DC, etc.) needed to control our quantum processors.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the integration of RF instruments and components (e.g., sources, filters, mixers…) into our Control Electronics systems (by testing, and establishing and performing V&V plans)
  • qualify full systems (when a new cryostat is installed)
  • coordinate with software teams to ensure seamless integration of RF control electronics into overall system architectures.
  • support the users in the day-to-day operations (configuration modification) - develop “instrumentation health” monitoring tools
  • Perform root cause analysis on failed systems, and develop corrective actions to improve product quality.
  • Lead performance improvement actions

Requirements:

  • Master or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in RF characterization/measurement and control electronics
  • Experience with test benches and measurement systems; such as Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, VNAs, Power Meters, Signal Generators
  • Test & Test procedure definition ; V&V plan
  • Experienced in Python programming and remote control of instruments (SCPI for example)
  • Professional English
  • Nice to have: Experience with Cryogenic, Quantum, Professional French

Benefits:

  • 25-day vacation policy (as per French law) + RTT

  • Half of transportation cost coverage (as per French law), or yearly allowance for the die-hard bicycle users

  • Competitive health benefits with Helium/Axa

  • Meal vouchers with Swile, as well as access to a fully equipped kitchen

  • Parental benefits with crèche support

  • Flexible remote policy, up to 40 % a month.

  • Screening Call with Giusy, Talent Acquisition Specialist (30 min)

  • Hiring Manager Interview with Antoine (45 min)

  • Technical Interview/Presentation with the Team (60 min)

  • Fit Interview (45 min)

  • Founders/C-level Interview (30 min)

  • Reference check
