Founded in 1936 to facilitate education and research, innovation, advocacy the American Epilepsy Society unites physicians, health care professionals, scientists, advocates, and others interested in the care and treatment of epilepsy. Supporting epilepsy professionals through continuing education, career development, and mentoring remains at the core of American Epilepsy Society’s mission. Furthermore, AES promotes both basic and clinical research at the vanguard of diagnosing, treating, and curing epilepsy. AES develops and disseminates tools to encourage evidence-based guidelines and best practices to improve care for patients suffering from epilepsy. Lastly, AES endeavors to improve public awareness of epilepsy and its impact to increase public policy and institutional support for the one in 26 Americans that will suffer from epilepsy during their lifetime.
