Mardou van Leeuwenstijn is an experienced research nurse at the Alzheimer Center Amsterdam, part of Amsterdam UMC, since October 2017. Prior to this role, Mardou worked at Tergooi from June 2012 to September 2017 as a nurse in the Geriatric Traumatology Unit, focusing on elderly patients with lower extremity fractures while collaborating closely with trauma surgeons, orthopedists, and geriatrics. Mardou's career also includes experience as a surgical nurse at AMC from April 2010 to June 2012 and as a research nurse at the Alzheimer Center Amsterdam. Mardou's nursing background began at Tergooiziekenhuizen from September 2006 to January 2011, covering various nursing roles. In addition, Mardou has a strong foundation in graphic design and clothing design, with freelance work from 1988 to 2003. Mardou holds a degree in Clinical Geriatric Nursing from UMCU (2008-2009) and completed nursing education at ROC Utrecht (2003-2007).

Alzheimer Centrum Amsterdam is part of the Amsterdam University Medical Center and is physically located at the VUmc location on De Boelelaan. More than 100 employees work at the center. Every year they treat thousands of patients from all over the country. In addition to caring for patients, a large proportion of the employees are involved in conducting ant the implementation of research. Alzheimer Centrum Amsterdam is the diagnosis and treatment center for dementia, with a focus on dementia at a young age. Our mission is to make dementia negotiable, treatable and eventually heal.
