Sam Bowman is a member of the technical staff at Anthropic since June 2022, where responsibilities include managing AI safety and evaluations research teams. Currently on leave from New York University, where Sam holds the position of Associate Professor of Data Science, Linguistics, and Computer Science since August 2016. Additionally, Sam participates in Giving What We Can and serves as a faculty sponsor at NYU AI School while having acted as a technical advisor at ASAPP from 2017 to 2023. Previous experience includes software engineering internships at Google, focused on machine learning research within the Google Brain projects. Sam earned a PhD in Linguistics from Stanford University and a BA/MA in Linguistics from the University of Chicago.
