Shirley is currently a Non-Executive Director with Alumina Limited, Develop Global Limited and Karora Resources Inc. She was formerly Deputy Chair of CSIRO, a Non-Executive Director of NBN Co Limited, Northern Star Resources Limited, Perth Airport, DUET Group, Asciano Limited, Alcoa of Australia Limited and a Council Member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia. She was also the Managing Director of Verve Energy (2007 – 2012) and, before that, she worked for 10 years in senior roles at Alcoa of Australia Limited, WMC Resources Ltd, Bond Corporation and BankWest.
In 2014, she was Chairman of the Queensland Government Expert Electricity Panel and a member of the Renewable Energy Target Review Panel for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and was, until recently, a Council member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (WA) and an Advisory Board member of the SMART Infrastructure Facility (University of Wollongong).
Shirley is Chair of the Health, Safety, Environment and Heritage Committee and a member of the People and Remuneration Committee.
