Mike Shands

VP, Learning & Leadership Development at APi Group

Mike Shands is the vice president of learning and leadership development for APi International.

After high school, Mike served as both an enlisted soldier and a commissioned officer in the United States Army. His last assignment was at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), where he led, coached, and mentored cadets as they negotiated their four-year leadership development experience. He retired from the Army in 2007.

Mike then joined APi Group as the Director of Learning and Development, where he focused on the strategic development and operational implementation of efforts that support APi Group’s purpose of Building Great Leaders®. He was promoted to vice president in 2015. In 2022, Mike became the Vice President of Learning and Leadership Development for APi International. In this role, he is responsible for building a leadership development capability that partners with APi’s international companies to deeply embed a leadership development culture within each of their businesses.

Mike holds both master's and doctorate degrees in leadership, as well as a certification in executive coaching.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife, Lisa, and daughter, Hannah.
