Brent Portman has a diverse background in volunteer work and community involvement, with ongoing contributions since 2006 at Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation. Brent has also volunteered at various sports organizations, including the San Francisco Giants since 2018 and the San Jose Earthquakes Soccer since 2020, while serving as a chain crew member for high school football since September 2021. Additional volunteer roles include positions with the San Francisco 49ers and multiple airports such as San Francisco International Airport and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. Brent holds a high school diploma from Monte Vista High School.

ARF is a national leader in the animal welfare industry co-founded by Elaine and Tony La Russa in 1991. Headquartered in Walnut Creek, California, the nonprofit receives no government funding and is an accredited four-star charity for eleven consecutive years. ARF’s core mission is the rescue of dogs and cats who have run out of time at public shelters, giving them a chance at life until a new home can be found. ARF couples this focus with innovative programs strengthening the human-animal bond for children, seniors, veterans, and people in disadvantaged circumstances.
