Abrie Swanepoel is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in economics and data analysis. Currently serving as the Assistant Secretary and Chief Data and Analytics Officer at the Attorney-General's Department since April 2022, Swanepoel previously held the position of Director and Acting Assistant Secretary in the International Economics and Security Division at the Commonwealth Treasury from August 2021 to April 2022. Prior to this, Swanepoel was the Manager and Acting General Manager of the Evaluation and Research Branch at the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources from May 2013 to July 2021. Swanepoel also served as Senior Manager of the Macroeconomic Analysis Unit at the ACT Government between March 2009 and February 2013, and began a career as an Economist in the International Economy Unit at the South African Reserve Bank from January 1998 to February 2009. Educationally, Swanepoel holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from the University of Pretoria, obtained between 2001 and 2003.
