Rebecca Mills is an experienced legal and policy expert currently serving as the A/g Assistant Secretary of the Family Law Branch at the Attorney-General's Department since April 2020, and as the Director of Family Violence Policy and Programs. Previously, Rebecca held the position of Senior Adviser at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, focusing on the Review of Parliamentary Workplace Practices. At the Australian Department of Home Affairs from August 2017 to April 2020, Rebecca led the development of Australia's Modern Slavery Act 2018 and managed initiatives to combat human trafficking. Earlier roles at the Attorney-General's Department included Assistant Director of the Human Trafficking and Slavery Section, where responsibility included domestic policy on human trafficking, and roles in cabinet and serious crime policy. Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from The Australian National University.
