Derek Young began their work experience in 2000 at the University of Minnesota, where they worked as a Schedule Manager, Document Specialist, and Teaching Assistant. Derek then moved on to Project MUSE, a division of the Johns Hopkins University Press, where they held the positions of Online Production Specialist and Production Coordinator. In 2011, they joined Innodata Isogen as a Program Manager. Currently, they are working at Atypon as the Director of Client Services.
Derek Young obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Scientific and Technical Communication from the University of Minnesota, which they pursued from 1998 to 2002. Derek then pursued further education at The Johns Hopkins University - Carey Business School and completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business from 2006 to 2010.
