Crafts Artisan/Stitcher
Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Crafts Artisan/Stitcher to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. This position assists in the construction and maintenance of costumes and craft elements for productions on our Boyd-Quinson Stage, and St Germain Stage. When not actively working on craft elements, this person will act as a Stitcher in the costume shop. This position requires a skilled artisan with experience in a range of crafting techniques, the willingness to work as part of a team, and the ability to follow through on individual projects.

Responsibilities:
Assist in the construction of costume detail accessories, craftwork, and costumes for all of BSC’s 2025 season’s productions and events under the guidance of the Costume Shop Supervisor, Lead Draper and First Hand
Assist in painting, dyeing, and distressing of materials as needed
Assist in the creation of hats, jewelry, footwear, masks, belts and fans, and any additional accessories as assigned
Hand or machine-sew costumes as assigned by supervisors
Effectively manage time to ensure all projects are completed on schedule and to the highest quality
Use and maintain costume shop tools and equipment appropriately
Keep work station clean and assist in keeping the costume shop and storage areas clean
Assist with the organization and restocking of costumes and materials as needed.
Assist with maintaining and updating costume stock and inventory
Skills:
Strong organizational, communication and time management skills
Experience with a variety of materials and craft techniques, including millinery, painting, jewelry work, and shoe alterations
Comfortable working with unusual and non-fabric materials
Working knowledge of costume construction techniques and materials
Ability to skillfully operate a variety of sewing machines, including single needle industrial, industrial zig-zag, overlock, merrow or serger, domestic straight, and domestic zig-zag machines
Ability to operate industrial steam irons and steamers
Ability to manage time effectively
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Able to sit for long periods of time
This position reports to the Costume Shop Supervisor. It is a full-time, seasonal position
Contract: 4/28/2025 through 9/21/2025
Pay is $ 769.90 per week, non-exempt, with overtime starting at 45 hours and housing available.
