Dean Matthewson has an extensive work experience spanning over 20 years. Dean started their career as a Runner/Researcher at BBC in 1999. Dean then worked as a Salesperson at Kent Blaxill & Co Ltd before joining ehouse as an Account Executive. In 2006, Dean joined BBC again, this time in different roles such as Assistant Media Planner, Senior Research Executive, Research Manager, Audience Planner, Head of BBC iCreate, and Senior Audience Planner, BBC Production. In 2015, they joined Reach plc as the Head of Planning, Invention, and then in 2019, they moved to BBH London as a Strategy Director.

Dean Matthewson attended the University of Leeds from 1997 to 2001, where they obtained a Bachelor of Broadcasting degree. Their major was Broadcasting, and they had a minor in English Language and Literature.

In terms of additional certifications, Dean obtained an Advanced Certificate in Effectiveness from the IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) in September 2021. In 2019, they earned a Level 5 Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management from The Institute of Leadership & Management. Additionally, Dean obtained a Professional Diploma in Marketing from CIM | The Chartered Institute of Marketing in 2008. The specific months of obtaining the latter two certifications are unknown.
