Prof. Dr. Thomas Carell was born in Herford, Germany in 1966 and studied chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany. He received his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Heidelberg, Germany in 1993. After postdoctoral studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge he obtained his habilitation from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland in 1998. Carell has been a professor for organic chemistry at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany since 2004.
Carell has been a member of the BASF Supervisory Board since May 3, 2019, and his mandate terminates upon conclusion of the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in 2024.
