Clarissa Fontes

Clarissa Fontes has a diverse background in research and academia. Clarissa currently works as a Carbon Rating Scientist at BeZero Carbon since 2023. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Scientist at Universidade de Brasília from 2021 to 2023, where they focused on studying the effects of fire on plants' vulnerability to climate change in a tropical savannah ecosystem. Before that, they served as an Assistant Professor at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte from 2021 to 2022. Their earlier experience includes working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Minnesota from 2019 to 2022, where they conducted research on the conservation and evolution of oak species worldwide, with a focus on wood anatomy, climatic niche, and evolutionary analysis.

Clarissa Fontes pursued their education starting in 2004 at the Universidade de Brasília, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Forestry in 2009. Following this, from 2010 to 2012, they attended the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA) to earn a Master's degree in the Science of Tropical Forest. Their educational journey continued at the University of California, Berkeley, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD degree in Integrative Biology from 2013 to 2019.
