Crystal Messner has a diverse work experience in various audit and financial roles. Crystal is currently serving as the Chief Audit Executive at Bi-State Development since December 2020. Prior to this, they were the Chief Internal Auditor at AZ Public Safety Personnel Retirement System from April 2020 to December 2020.
From 2018 to 2020, Crystal held the position of Vice President and Membership Officer at Phoenix Institute of Internal Auditors. And before that, they worked at State of Arizona as part of the Statewide Internal Audit team from November 2018 to April 2020.
In 2017, Crystal worked as the Director of Internal Audit at the State of Tennessee and from 2016 to 2017, they served as the Performance Audit Supervisor at Arizona Department of Transportation.
Their earlier experience includes working as an Insurance Examiner at the State of Tennessee from 2014 to 2016, a Corporate Auditor at Arizona Department of Revenue from 2013 to 2014, and as a Business Owner and Accountant at Moody Management LLC from 2009 to 2013.
Crystal's career started in 2004 as an Office Manager/Controller at Joriga Electronics, Inc.
Crystal Messner completed their Master of Science (MS) degree in Cybersecurity from Maryville University of Saint Louis from 2022 to 2023. Prior to that, they pursued a degree in Forensic Accounting from The Defiance College. Crystal also holds additional certifications, including a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from ISACA obtained in April 2020, a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) from The Institute of Internal Auditors obtained in April 2018, and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) obtained in February 2014.

The Freightway plays a critical role in the growth of the region’s manufacturing and distribution sector.
