Laboratory Technician

Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible to weigh, measure, pipette, and check raw materials to ensure that manufacturing reagents contain the proper ingredients and meet quality standards. Their primary responsibility will be to formulate reagents. They will have a knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR real time PCR, and use of fluorescence based nucleic acid detection techniques. The lab technician is also responsible for performing a wide variety of laboratory tasks and production processes including operation of HPLCs, DNA Synthesizers, LC/MS, liquid handling robots, and UV/Vis Spectrometry.

The Laboratory Technician will work in a clean room environment preparing reagents for use in medical diagnostic devices. Appropriate use of PPE is a requirement to perform routine duties. Key skills required:

•       Demonstrated proficiency in math, specifically unit conversions.

•      Good oral/written communication.

•       Pipetting/liquid handling of multiple volumes and equipment.

•       Execution of repetitive tasks, and maintenance of a high level of consistency over time.

•       Ability to perform work according to written guidelines and pre-established instructions and procedures.

•       Ability to stand or sit for 2+ hours at a time during a 9-hour shift.

Education and Experience

Minimum: Actively enrolled in 2-year degree in science field with 1+ years scientific/laboratory experience. High school diploma required.

Preferred but not required experience:

•       Experience in a medical device production environment.

•       Knowledge of FDA and/or GMP regulations.

•       Associates degree in a scientific field or equivalent. 2+ scientific/laboratory experience. 1+ years cGMP. Bachelor's degree/4-year program with an emphasis on biological science.
