Chris Steenkamp has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Chris started their career as an Apprentice Instrument Technician at Palabora Mining Company in 1986. Chris then moved on to work as a Telkom Technician at Telkom for ten years. In 2003, they joined Total Facilities Management as a Network Engineer before assuming the role of IT Operations Manager for the Mvelaphanda/Rebserve group. In 2013, they joined Bidvest Facilities Management as a Senior Manager: IT Operations, where they oversaw IT infrastructure and managed Microsoft licensing. In 2016, Chris became the Owner of The Thirsty Walrus, a small bottle store, tavern, and eating house, where they handled all aspects of the business. Chris later joined Express Vending as an IT Operations Manager in 2017. Currently, Chris is the Head of Information Technology at BKL, where they lead the IT department.
Chris Steenkamp's education history includes various programs and certifications related to business, IT, and engineering. In 1984-1985, they completed their Senior Certificate Grade 12 at Frans Du Toit High School. Chris then pursued a National Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Durban University of Technology from 1990 to 1992.
In terms of higher-level programs, Chris completed a Management Development Programme (MDP) at Wits Business School in 2009. In 2013, they attended the same institution for an Executive Development Programme. Additionally, they obtained an ITIL Foundation certification from Torque IT in 2015, specializing in ITIL.
Throughout their career, Chris has also earned several certifications. In 2016, they obtained an ITIL Foundation Level certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice. In 2019, they completed the PRINCE2® Foundation Certification Training, also offered by AXELOS Global Best Practice. Furthermore, they achieved various certifications from Microsoft, including Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals in 2021, Microsoft Certified Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals in 2022, and the (ISC)² Candidate designation in 2023. Finally, in 2021, they received a Prince2 Agile Foundation certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice.
