Kurt Waananen

Kurt Waananen has extensive experience in research and development, currently serving as the R&D Director at Blue Diamond Growers since November 2017, overseeing Research and Development and Regulatory Affairs/Labeling functions. Prior to this role, Kurt spent over 28 years at General Mills, holding various leadership positions, including R&D Director for International Snacks and Canada, where significant contributions included aligning research with multiple divisions and achieving exceptional performance recognition. Throughout their career, Kurt has emphasized innovation and quality, successfully driving process advancements and product development across multiple food categories and international markets. Kurt earned a PhD and M.S. in Food Engineering from Purdue University, as well as a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from Washington State University.
