Borrego Health
Martha Deichler was born in Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois, to a Navy family. She has lived in various locations on the United States East and West Coasts, Japan, France, and Germany.
Her first year of college was in Munich, Germany, but she finished her schooling at San Diego State University with a degree in Anthropology, a minor in French, and a California Teaching Credential. Later on, Martha earned her Master's in Education and Administrative Credential from Point Loma Nazarene University.
Martha began teaching in 1972 and fell in love with the job. She taught for 27 years in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. During this time, she served as the science teacher in charge of a large school garden project in Chula Vista. She currently works with the Borrego Art Institute’s ArtFarm to bring learning alive for children in their garden.
After obtaining her California Administrator’s Credential, Martha served as a school principal in Chula Vista. She then moved to the desert to be the principal of Borrego Springs Elementary School. After a few years in this role, she became the Superintendent of Borrego Springs Unified School District. Although retired as the School District Superintendent, she continues to serve as the School Community Liaison.
