NOTE: This position is open to internal candidates only. Faculty in the School of Foundational Learning would be preferred. 

Position Summary

The Program Chair develops, plans, implements, and administers goals and objectives related to the assigned program(s) including quality course and program curriculum planning and reports directly to the Associate Dean.

The Program Chair works in consultation with the Associate Dean and other faculty to ensure academic excellence and learner success within the context of the Bow Valley College strategic plan.

Additionally, the Program Chair helps to ensure effective communication and coordination between the activities of the Schools and programs, and with internal college stakeholders and external bodies as relevant. Also provides operational and academic leadership support to the programs, faculty, and learners in consultation with the Associate Dean.

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Program leadership of the Humanities Area and the Academic Upgrading programs in SFL.
  • Quality assurance for program (curriculum, course standards, instruction, etc.)
  • Policy and program administration (scheduling, program review, attendance, academic integrity, code of conduct, other).
  • Onboard and support faculty in the department.
  • Support learners with all aspects of their academic programming to ensure student success.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Alberta Education teaching certificate.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Indigenous students.

  • Specialization in the Humanities discipline.

  • Experience in all aspects of teaching and learning, including classroom instruction, curriculum development, assessment, evaluation, etc.

  • Experience in holistic student support for high-barriered learners from diverse backgrounds.

  • Leadership, coaching, and influencing experience to foster excellence in learning.

If your education was received internationally we will require you provide an international education assessment through IQASWES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire.

This opening is a 3 -year, Project Faculty position. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check.
