Derek F. Van Der Merwe

Derek van der Merwe is an experienced athletic administrator currently serving as the Director of Athletics & Recreation at Bowling Green State University Athletic Department since October 2022. Previously, Derek held the position of Assistant Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer at the University of Arizona from July 2018 to October 2022. Prior to that, Derek served as the Vice President for Advancement, Communications and Strategic Initiatives and Executive Director of Foundation, as well as Athletics Director at Austin Peay State University from June 2013 to July 2018. Derek's career in athletics administration began at Central Michigan University, where Derek served as Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer from August 1997 to July 2013. Derek holds both a Master of Science in Administration and a Bachelor's of Science in Communication from Central Michigan University.
