James Pickup has worked in the engineering field since 2012. James began their career as a Student Engineer at Xodus Group, followed by a role as a Stress Engineer at SOGECLAIR aerospace from 2013-2016. James then moved to Wärtsilä as a Design Engineer from 2016-2018, and most recently has been working as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Bowman Power Group Ltd since 2021. During their time at Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd., they were a Customer Solutions Engineer and was responsible for the company's installation manuals for diesel and gas marine engines, aligning teams with companywide customer development projects, writing content for documentation with concise written specifications, and managing, maintaining and developing team task lists, scheduling, and resources. James also achieved several accomplishments including the implementation of team management processes for workload scheduling and task planning, the creation of a tool that displayed task allocation and progression, and the development of companywide quality control processes for all external documentation.

James Pickup attended The Royal Ballet (Secondary school & College) between 1997 and 2005. James then studied Mathematics (A) and Physics (B) through distance learning from 2009 to 2011. James went on to earn a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the West of England between 2011 and 2016. Additionally, they obtained a PRINCE2 Foundation Certificate from Advantage Learning Ltd in December 2015.
