Senior User Researcher at BrainPOP

Mia Almeda has a diverse work experience spanning several years. Mia began their career as an Assistant Head Teacher at Keys Grade School from June 2009 to March 2012. Mia then joined Teachers College of Columbia University as a Graduate Research Assistant, where they worked on a project funded by the National Science Foundation focused on productive struggle and supporting struggling young learners in online learning environments. Their responsibilities included building automated detectors to differentiate between productive and unproductive struggle, administering randomized controlled trials, and producing and editing scientific manuscripts. Mia worked at Teachers College from January 2013 to May 2018. Following that, they joined TERC as a Research Associate, where they worked in Research and Development. Mia contributed to various projects during their time at TERC and held the position from July 2018 to December 2021. Subsequently, they became a Research Associate II at EDC (Education Development Center), where they worked from September 2019 to December 2021. Currently, Mia is working as a User Researcher at BrainPOP, starting in December 2021.

Mia Almeda pursued their education at different institutions, starting in 2004 at Ateneo de Manila University, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2008. Mia furthered their studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, beginning in 2012, where they earned a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Neuroscience in 2014. Subsequently, they continued at Teachers College, Columbia University, and from 2014 to 2018, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cognitive Science.
