Dr. Holt earned his Ph.D. at East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C., where his research focused on the semiotic meaning of the Wall that Israel has built around the West Bank, and how that meaning has shaped the discursive practices of Palestinians, Israelis, and internationals.
Dr. Holt’s specialty in Visual Rhetoric and Design proved helpful in his dissertation research, and also proves helpful in his role as Vice President of Admissions and Financial Aid, where he helps manage and execute Brevard’s new student enrollment marketing efforts and manages institutional financial aid policy. He is currently writing about the Wall, specifically graffiti on the West Bank side of the Wall, and is conducting research that applies critical race theory to admissions and enrollment marketing policies and practices. His academic interest also include whiteness theory, religious rhetoric, eastern religious thought, and the role of symbolism in communicative practices. Dr. Holt began his career as a higher education administrator in 1998.
