Katya Wachtel started their work experience in 2009 as a contributor and editorial intern for The Huffington Post's Blog Desk. Katya then worked as a reporter and editor for The Business Insider from 2010 to 2011. From 2011 to 2013, they worked as a finance correspondent for Thomson Reuters. In 2014, they joined Broadsheet Media as a features writer, contributing to their Melbourne and Sydney editions. Katya later became the Melbourne Editor and eventually the Editorial Director. Alongside their work at Broadsheet Media, they were also a features writer for Vault New Art & Culture Magazine from 2015 to 2017.

Katya Wachtel attended the University of Melbourne from 2004 to 2006, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media and Communications with a focus on Political Science and History. Katya then attended Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, earning a Master of Science degree in Journalism from 2008 to 2009, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Political Journalism from 2009 to 2010.
