Kun-Hua (Eric) Tu has been working in the field of machine learning since 2009. Kun-Hua (Eric) started as a Graduate Researcher at National Taiwan University in 2009. In 2012, they became a Research Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Here, they modeled the thermodynamic behavior of block-copolymer and developed a convolutional neural net model that recognized three different copolymer patterns with the accuracy over 99%. In 2017, they became an Artificial Intelligence Fellow at Insight Data Science, where they built a cat photo analyzer as a marketing tool for a collaborated company, Snappr. Kun-Hua (Eric) trained and tweaked a Inception-Resnet model that can identify cat breed among 42 classes, as well as the alertness, cuteness and emotion of a cat, achieving 90% top-1 accuracy and 98% top-3 accuracy in classifying cat breed. Since 2018, they have been a Senior Machine Learning Research Scientist and a Machine Learning Research Scientist at Buoy Health. At Buoy, they have been building a free digital health tool that helps people start their health care on the right foot. Kun-Hua (Eric) has been leveraging artificial intelligence powered by advanced machine learning and proprietary granular data to resemble an exchange people would have with their favorite doctor.
Kun-Hua (Eric) Tu completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Materials Science from National Taiwan University in 2009. Kun-Hua (Eric) then went on to pursue a Master's degree in Materials Science from the same university, which they completed in 2011. Subsequently, they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Materials Science and Engineering in 2017.
Buoy Health
Buoy builds a free digital health tool that helps people – from the moment they get sick – start their health care on the right foot. Started by a team of doctors and computer scientists working at the Harvard Innovation Laboratory in Boston MA, Buoy was developed in direct response to the downward spiral we’ve all faced when we attempt to self-diagnose our symptoms online. Buoy leverages artificial intelligence – powered by advanced machine learning and proprietary granular data - to resemble an exchange you would have with your favorite doctor – to provide consumers with a real-time, accurate analysis of their symptoms and help them easily and quickly embark on the right path to getting better. Buoy is based in Boston and was founded in 2014.
