Richard Newell

Richard Newell currently serves as the Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Sustainability Solutions at C3 AI since April 2024. Prior to this role, Newell was the President and CEO of Resources for the Future from October 2011 to April 2024, and an Adjunct Professor and Gendell Professor of Energy and Environmental Economics at Duke University from January 2007 to April 2024. Additional experience includes serving as a Member of the Advisory Board for the Kepos Carbon Barometer at Kepos Capital, L.P., a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and Administrator at the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Newell's earlier roles encompass Senior Fellow at Resources for the Future, Senior Economist for Energy and Environment at the Council of Economic Advisers, and Senior Associate at ICF International. Academically, Newell holds a PhD in Environmental and Resource Economics from Harvard University, an MPA in Public Policy from Princeton University, a BS in Materials Engineering, and a BA in Philosophy from Rutgers University.
