Jacqueline Clayton

Jacqueline (Zamarripa) Clayton is a seasoned attorney currently serving as a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice since June 2025. Prior to this role, Jacqueline worked as an Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General from January 2023 to May 2025, and as an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorneys' Offices from December 2021 to January 2023. Jacqueline's legal experience also includes serving as an Assistant Attorney General in Oklahoma, where responsibilities involved representing the state in civil matters. Earlier roles include Staff Attorney at the Alliance for Children's Rights and a Legal Fellow at Maryland Legal Aid. Jacqueline holds a Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from UC Irvine, alongside international education at the University of Cape Town and Universidad Interamericana de Costa Rica.
