Matthew Davis has a diverse work experience in the energy sector. Matthew started their career at AESO as a Market Analyst, where they monitored and analyzed Alberta's wholesale electricity market outcomes and evaluated options for demand response. Matthew then became a Senior Market Analyst before transitioning to the role of Supervisor - Market Analytics. In this role, they established a team focused on using market data analysis to support rule and policy implementation and forecast the supply-demand balance in the province. Matthew also played a key role in developing and publishing a Long-Term Transmission Plan for Alberta.
After their time at AESO, Davis worked as an Associate at The Brattle Group, where they engaged in various energy projects, including project valuations, market fundamental forecasts, litigation support, and policy development and modeling in electricity markets across North America and overseas.
Davis then joined ATCO Power Canada Ltd as the Supervisor of Operations Analytics, leading a team responsible for planning optimal outage times and developing electricity market revenue and dispatch cost forecasts. Matthew later took on roles as Manager of Forecasting & Strategic Analysis, Manager of Regulatory & Policy, and Manager of Strategic Planning, where they provided strategic guidance on market changes, carbon policy, coal-fired generation retirement, and Alberta's transition to a capacity market.
Most recently, Davis worked at Heartland Generation as the Director of Strategic Planning & Policy, leading a department that delivered on corporate commodity price forecasts, regulatory positions, and policy advocacy. Matthew successfully orchestrated a smooth start-up post-acquisition and mitigated regulatory risks while promoting competitive solutions for distributed energy storage.
Currently, Davis is working at Capital Power as the Director of Regulatory, further expanding their expertise in regulatory matters.
Matthew Davis earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Statistics from the University of Calgary, where they studied from 1999 to 2005. Matthew then pursued further education and completed a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Statistics at the same institution from 2005 to 2007. Additionally, they obtained a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) with Distinction in Statistics from the University of Otago, where they studied from 2005 to 2006.
