Ruth Davies joined the University on 6 May. Ruth is an experienced senior leader in higher education with a background in governance, compliance and risk.
Ruth’s most recent role was Head of Corporate Governance at Cardiff University, providing governance advice and guidance to the senior executive team and the governing body, as well as leading and developing teams responsible for information security, data protection, freedom of information and equality and diversity.
Ruth has a keen and ongoing interest in the effective use of digital technology, and has also worked as an IT Business Partner, initiating the development of Cardiff University’s first Digital Strategy, and an Information Security Framework.
She is an Independent Member of Cardiff Council’s Standards and Ethics Committee, and has a strong commitment to continuing professional development, with qualifications spanning law, corporate governance, project management and IT service management.
Ruth describes herself as happiest in walking boots or running shoes and she is a firm believer in the restorative power and mental health benefits of being outdoors. She is a big supporter of the Parkrun movement and social running clubs, and a fan of coastal paths, fells and lakes.
About her appointment, Ruth said: “I am really looking forward to joining Cardiff Metropolitan University. Higher education has the power to change lives and I am thrilled to take the opportunity to work at this modern and progressive university in my home town.”
