The Opportunity

Position Summary: The Long Term Care (LTC) Specialist promotes excellence in nursing with advanced knowledge within clinical care, systems leadership, advancement of nursing practice, evaluation and research. The LTC Specialist comes with CCHSS auditor and educator experience that will enhance the LTC teams to provide and support complex client situations and trends, leading clinical guideline, protocol development and implementation, and identifying opportunities to increase LTC nursing practice based on best evidence. They will lead clinical team consultation while collaborating with appropriate stakeholders both internal and external to Carewest on system change, following through with planning, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives.

Program summary: This role will focus on the Carewest long term care sites in the Calgary Zone.

Qualifications: Required: • Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse education program. • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta(CRNA). • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Preferred: • Completion of Master’s in Nursing. • PROSCI Change Management certificate. Change management modules. • Alberta Health Services Improvement Way (AIW) Green Belt certification. • Canadian Gerontological Nursing certificate (GPNC(C).

Experience: Required: • Minimum 3 years of full-time clinical experience in the last 5 years in continuing care, focusing on long term care. • Previous CCHSS auditor experience. • Previous LTC educator experience. • Demonstrated ability to engage and build collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, patients and families, leaders, learners, external partners, and facilitate group processes. • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to recognize complex problems and seek solutions. • Demonstrated knowledge of adult teaching principles. Ability to develop education resources and presentation for colleagues, staff and stakeholders. • Connect Care proficiency. Preferred: • Project management and change management knowledge and experience an asset. • Demonstrated ability in planning, implementing and leading change from an evidence-based perspective. • Knowledge of wide range of research design methodologies.
