Sophia Morel

Senior Director, Education, Career, & Enrichment Services at CASES

Sophia Morel began her career at CASES as an intern in 2004 before transitioning to a full-time position in 2005. She has worked in CASES’ Family Court alternative-to-detention services, taught in the high school equivalency (HSE) program, led HSE and post-secondary initiatives, and helped usher in the expansion of education and employment services at the agency. In her current role, she implements and develops a spectrum of programs and services serving youth and young adults impacted by the criminal legal system, from preventative through reentry. Ms. Morel holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communications and Rhetoric from SUNY Albany and a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) in Leadership and Community-Based Learning from Bank Street College of Education.

The mission of CASES is to increase the understanding and use of community sanctions that are fair, affordable, and consistent with public safety. CASES serves nearly 4,000 individuals annually in programs lasting anywhere from one day to more than two years. Their programs are aimed at high-need populations, including young people, adults with mental illness, and chronic misdemeanants who are homeless, drug-addicted, or underemployed.
