Ivonne Roman

Senior Implementation Strategist at Center for Policing Equity

Ivonne Roman is a Senior Implementation Strategist at the Center for Policing Equity. She has 25 years of experience in policing, serving in every rank from police officer to police chief, in the Newark (NJ) Police Department.

Roman earned an MPA with Distinction (2017) and an MS in Public Affairs (2020) from Rutgers-Camden, where she has also completed coursework for a PhD in Public Affairs. She holds certifications from the Police Executive Research Forum, the Harvard Kennedy School and Rutgers-Labor Relations program.

She is a board member of the American Society for Evidence-Based Policing, an executive fellow at the National Policing Institute, and was a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Law Enforcement Advancing Data and Science (LEADS) scholar (2016). She is also a TED Talk fellow (2019) and earned the American Society of Criminology Outstanding Practitioner Award (2019). In 2021, Roman co-founded the 30x30 initiative to increase the representation of women in policing to 30% by 2030.
