Central Queens Academy Charter School

Central Queens Academy Charter School is a high-performing, tuition-free, public school serving New York City Community School District 24. Our middle school opened in 2012 and our elementary school opened in 2021. In 2022 both schools moved into our new construction facility in the heart of Elmhurst, uniting our school community under one roof for the first time in our school's decade-long history. CQA is looking for dozens of new educators to join our team as we grow our elementary school over the next few years. CQA has a specific interest in improving academic and life outcomes for English Language Learners and recent immigrant populations. Our scholars primarily live in the Corona, Elmhurst and Woodside neighborhoods - some of the most overcrowded and diverse in New York City. Currently, we serve over 700 scholars who represent nearly 30 different nations from around the world. About 90% of our scholars are from low-income households and 80% would be the first in their family to graduate from college. CQA staff have an opportunity to be a part of developing compassionate global stewards and life-long readers and learners in a progressive environment in the context of supportive, grateful and appreciative families who are excited to collaborate; colleagues who are devoted to their practice, their scholars, and the school mission; and a leadership team dedicated to supporting professional growth by providing feedback and support. The hard work of our students and faculty have produced proven success. CQA has ranked highest performing middle school in Queens since 2014. Our scholars have outperformed their city, state and home district peers on the New York State mathematics and English Language Arts exams. CQA was also named a Reward School by New York State Education Department twice, a distinction awarded to only the top 5% of public schools statewide.
