Matthias De Decker began their work experience in 2013 as a Thesis student at VIB. Matthias then briefly worked as a Medewerker planten at CropDesign - a BASF Plant Science Company before starting their PhD at Universiteit Gent in 2014. Matthias completed their PhD in March 2020 and is currently working as a Flow Cytometry Scientist at Cerba Research since February 2021.

From 2003 to 2009, Matthias attended Sint-Vincentiuscollege Buggenhout. Although no degree is specified, they pursued studies in Modern languages and Sciences during this period.

From 2009 to 2014, Matthias enrolled at Ghent University. During this time, they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biology, specializing in the field of study referred to as "Biologie" in Dutch.
