Gavin McCance

Gavin McCance is a seasoned IT professional currently serving as the Chief Information Technology Architect at CERN, where responsibilities include leading a team to define IT architecture strategy and ensure compliance with best practices. With extensive experience, Gavin has led various teams managing CERN's vast computing resources, including a 300k-core batch computing facility and high-performance computing resources. Previous roles include Compute Services Lead, Deputy Group Leader for Compute and Monitoring, IT Technical Architect, and Project Manager, where achievements encompass the successful migration of IT operations to open-source tools and the development of petabyte-scale data distribution services. Gavin's earlier career at the University of Glasgow involved leading a team on data management architecture for the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid. Gavin holds a PhD in High Energy Particle Physics and an MSci (Hons) in Physics, both from the University of Glasgow.
