Uche Olowu, Ph.D, FCIB has a wealth of work experience in the banking industry. Uche is currently serving as the President of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, a position they have held since May 2018. Prior to this, they worked at Union Bank of Nigeria as the Head of Corporate Banking Energy Upstream/Oil Services, a role they began in December 2008. Before joining Union Bank, they worked at UBA PLC as the Head of Corporate Banking Energy South from March 2006 to November 2008. Earlier in their career, they held the position of AGM and Head of Energy Oil & Gas at Fountain Trust Bank plc from January 2002 to March 2006.

Uche Olowu, Ph.D, FCIB pursued their education at Rivers State University of Science and Technology from 2002 to 2012. During this period, they obtained an MBA and a Ph.D in Management, with a specialization in Organizational Behaviour.

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is the umbrella professional body for bankers in Nigeria. It was established in 1963 as the Nigerian Institute of Bankers and Chartered in 1990 (now Act 5 of 2007). The Principal Responsibilities These include the determination of the standards of knowledge and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the banking profession, conducting professional examinations leading to the award of certificates and ensuring the furtherance , maintenance and observation of ethical standards and professionalism among practitioners of the banking profession in Nigeria. Membership The Institute has corporate and individual members. Corporate members are: The Central Bank of Nigeria, The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, all Deposit Money Banks, Development Banks, Mortgage Banks, Micro Finance Banks and Discount Houses.
