Maya Carey has been working in various roles since 2016. Maya began their career at YWCA Greater Pittsburgh as an intern for the Center for Race and Gender Equity, where they headed the voter outreach and education program and helped coordinate and outreach for the annual Racial Justice Awards. In 2017, Maya worked as a Research Assistant for the Chatham University Political Science Department, a Summer Legislative Intern for State Representative Dan Frankel, a Program Assistant for the Women's Institute at Chatham University, and a Grants Intern for Pittsburgh City Planning. Most recently, in 2018, Maya has been working as a Community Engagement Coordinator for HopeWorks of Howard County.
Maya Carey attended Chatham University from 2014 to 2018, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government. In 2016, they also attended Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) for Social Sciences.
