Emilia Belanger has a diverse work experience in various healthcare settings. Emilia started their career at the City of Ottawa in 2013 and 2014 as a Special Needs Support Worker and Shared Care Worker respectively. In 2017, they joined Brockville General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Women & Children's Health Program. During their time there, they provided care to patients in labour/delivery/recovery/post-partum, pediatric, neonatal, and medical/surgical units. Emilia also participated in resuscitation interventions as part of the Code Pink and Code Blue teams.
In 2017, Emilia transitioned to The Hospital for Sick Children, where they took on multiple roles. As a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator, they coordinated a randomized control trial and collected data to create evidence for residency scheduling policies. Additionally, they were a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, caring for critically ill pediatric patients on ventilatory support, ECMO, and high-risk IV drug infusion. Emilia also adapted their practice to care for adult patients requiring ECMO support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Emilia was also a member of the PICU End-of-Life Committee.
In 2021, Emilia worked as a Research Coordinator at Stanford University School of Medicine. Emilia'sresponsibilities included data abstraction for a real-time registry focusing on COVID-19 patients in intensive care units with myocardial injury and/or dysfunction.
In 2022, they joined the Ottawa Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, where they safely delivered nursing care to critically ill adult patients requiring ventilatory and vasopressor support. Emilia demonstrated their ability to work effectively and competently within a team during emergency situations. Emilia supported patients and their families throughout their ICU admission.
Finally, in 2022, Emilia joined CHEO as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Emilia Belanger's education history begins with their high school diploma in French Immersion, which they obtained from Sir Robert Borden High School from 2008 to 2012. Emilia then pursued a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at St. Francis Xavier University from 2012 to 2016, focusing on Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse. Afterward, Emilia attended George Brown College from 2018 to 2019 to acquire a degree in Perinatal Intensive Care within the field of Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse.
In addition to their formal education, Emilia has obtained several certifications. Most recently, in February 2022, they completed BCLS-HCP training at Heart & Stroke. In July 2020, Emilia achieved the PALS Provider certification from Heart and Stroke. Emilia also holds certifications in Canada Good Clinical Practice and Health Canada Division 5 - Drugs for Clinical Trials Involving Human Subjects, which they obtained through the CITI Program in March 2020. In January 2019, Emilia became an NRP Advanced Provider certified by the Canadian Paediatric Society. Furthermore, they acquired credentials in Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour from CMNRP in October 2018, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention from the Crisis Prevention Institute in November 2017, Breastfeeding: Best Practice for Healthcare Professionals from CMNRP in February 2017, and Registered Nurse certification from the College of Nurses of Ontario in January 2017. Finally, Emilia completed ACLS Provider training at the Heart and Stroke Foundation in October 2016 and CORE training through TCPS 2 in October 2014.
