Michael O'Connor has extensive work experience in the field of ophthalmology. Michael is currently working as an Ophthalmologist - Eye Physician & Surgeon at iCare Surgical And Optical Centre since 2020. Prior to this, they held the position of Chief, Department of Ophthalmology at CHEO -- Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario from 2019 to present. Michael also served as an Ophthalmologist - Eye Physician and Surgeon at CHEO from 2007 to 2019. Additionally, Michael has held teaching positions at the University of Ottawa as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology since 2019 and as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology from 2007 to 2019. Michael has also worked at The Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute as an Ophthalmologist - Eye Physician and Surgeon since 2007. Michael completed their residency in ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, where they received postgraduate training in ophthalmology and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2006. Michael also completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at The Hospital for Sick Children / University of Toronto from 2006 to 2007.

Michael O'Connor completed their education at Queen's University. Michael obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) (BScH) in Life Sciences in 1996. Michael then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Physiology from 1996 to 1997. Finally, they earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Queen's University, which they completed in 2001.
