Gary Hird has extensive experience in fleet operations management within the railway sector, having worked at Chiltern Railways since 1993. Currently serving as the Fleet Operations Manager (Traincare & Outstations), Gary oversees a team of approximately 90 staff to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and clean trains. Previous roles included leading a team of Duty Fleet Managers for real-time maintenance coordination, implementing strategic cost and performance improvements, and building effective Traincare teams across multiple sites. Gary began the career as an Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Fitter Apprentice, gaining foundational engineering skills and progressing through various technical roles. Education includes training at Swindon College.
