Alan Rettie has extensive experience in the field of chemistry, particularly within the whisky industry. Currently serving as Lead Technical Specialist and Quality Laboratory Manager at Chivas Brothers since February 2007, Alan oversees Quality for the Brands Technical Centres in Keith and Kilmalid and manages the laboratory in Keith. Responsibilities include maintaining ISO17025 accreditation and supervising two analysts operating advanced analytical equipment for malt distillate, effluent, and mature whisky analysis. Previously, Alan worked as a Development Chemist at Hickson and Welch from October 1992 to June 2005, and as a Research Associate at the University of Newcastle from October 1990 to October 1992. Alan Rettie holds a Ph.D/BSc in Chemistry from Heriot-Watt University, completed in 1990, and attended Keith Grammar School from 1977 to 1983.
